As an elementary general music teacher, I was interested in helping students engage in cultural studies and self-exploration in music class (along with developing musical skills and understandings related to musical dimensions such as rhythm, melody, form, texture, etc.). During my studies at Northwestern University, I developed a music curriculum to help students come to know culture and themselves through music. Below, you will find the proposed curriculum document and examples of the final "concerts" students developed (many arrangements were crafted by and with students).

2012 concert: "This Can Be"

2013: "The Story of Us"

Elementary Choir

http://www.jesserathgeber.com/ec-12-teaching/elementary-choir

http://www.jesserathgeber.com/ec-12-teaching/elementary-choir#comments

Choir

Elementary

Pop

I was luck to work with young singers in the "Country Meadows Singers" group (4-5th grades).
